It has been a dream come true to be home with Mateo for the holidays. We have been able to celebrate with family, wear matching outfits, open gifts, and all the while being delighted by Mateo’s endless happiness and wonder. We have been overjoyed by the generosity of people towards Mateo on his fundraising page. Thank you so much to every person who contributed to his medical needs, who sent us holiday cards, loving messages and prayers. Mateo has remained healthy throughout this season, and we are so grateful for that - what a blessing!
Mateo has also graduated to full blended feeds, and his reflux has improved a lot, which allows him to do many more activities during the day. He has started seeing physiotherapy and Speech from the Niagara Children’s Centre, and is able to stand up with assistance. Mateo has been driving around in his new toy car and he loves it! It has been a mild winter so we have been able to get outside and take him for walks in his new ride.
Mateo is a happy boy who continues to amaze us with his cleverness, and his ability to learn. Lately he is enjoying reading books, and turning pages all by himself, as well as exploring how his toys work. He has been sitting in his high chair at the table with us for meals, and enjoying exploring around the house. Most of all this holiday season he has enjoyed the company of his family, who have showered him with love, gifts and soooo many cuddles!
We will be going to SickKids in the New Year for follow up appointments with cardiology, general surgery and neurosurgery. The cardiologist will be able to let us know what the next step will be for Mateo's heart, probably another Heart Cath to check how the blood flow that goes to the lungs is progressing. The neurosurgeon has an MRI planned at the beginning of February, to see how his arachnoid cyst is doing and wether the passages that they opened up in his last surgery are still draining. General surgery will be looking into a timeline for reversing his ostomy, which probably won't be until after his heart is repaired. We are hoping to continue to have a healthy winter, staying away from germs; and we wish the same for you too!
Thank you again for all of your love and support!
Anita, Kyle, and Mateo
